Maths A Level at New College Nottingham
If you have a talent for maths and enjoy solving challenging problems, this could be the course for you. It’s a subject where you’ll gain some great
transferable skills such as problem solving, logic and analysing situations, which are useful for many university courses and careers.
Having a traditional subject such as Maths on your CV can boost your job prospects and there is evidence that people who study Maths earn more money than those who don’t.
Many of our students take this subject alongside business studies, economics, psychology, sociology and geography. As part of the course you will study pure mathematics, building on the work you did at GCSE level and extending your range of mathematical skills and techniques to solve more difficult problems. Topics include: pure maths and statistics. You will need your own scientific calculator. A graphical calculator is also strongly recommended – ask your tutor for advice before buying one.
You’ll need 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language and at least grade B in maths. You may also be required to attend an introductory bridging course after completion of your GCSEs
You could progress to a related higher education course such as maths, business, accountancy, science, computing, engineering or economics.
