BTEC Business Subsiduary Diploma(Level 3) at Broadway Academy

Course description

The EdExcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business is a two year course that is equivalent to one A level. Students will complete six units over the two years and the course is 100% coursework assessed.

All six units must be fully completed if the full qualification is to be achieved. The qualification is graded at pass, merit or distinction level and these grades are broadly the same as a grade E, C or A at ‘A’ level.

Course content

.The first four units are mandatory and must be studied by all candidates:

Unit 1: The Business Environment. This unit gives an introduction to a wide variety of business and economics - related topics and forms the basis of much of the work studied subsequently.

Unit 2: Business Resources. Finance and Human Resource Management are a feature of this unit. Both require some ability to use numbers.

Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing. How do you break up your market in order to maximise sales? Students study this and other marketing related areas here.

Unit 4: Business Communication. The importance of good communication in an organisation’s success is evaluated here.

The last two units are optional and are decided after consultation between staff and students.

Coursework will require additional work outside lessons in the form of reading, additional research and writing up the work itself. In addition, Business Studies students should always be encouraged to take an interest in current affairs and watch business related programmes, such as 'Dragons Den' and 'The Apprentice'.
