MATHEMATICS AND FURTHER MATHEMATICS A LEVEL at Queensmead School

Course description

This is a popular two-year course leading to A Level Mathematics (Edexcel).

At the end of the first year all students will sit three examinations leading to AS Mathematics. The AS is the first half of an A Level course and contributes 50% of the total A Level marks. The second half of the A Level comprises the other 50% of the total marks. Students wishing to study Further Maths study 12 modules in total.

Course content

Year 12: Core Mathematics 1 and 2 (C1, C2) and Probability and Statistics (S1)

Year 13: Core Mathematics 3 and 4 (C3, C4) and Decision Mathematics (D1)

Entry requirements

To follow A Level Mathematics students should have grade A or above at GCSE Mathematics. For Further Mathematics students need to have an A* in GCSE Mathematics.

Assessment

All units consist of just one written paper and are equally weighted. All examination papers are 1 hour 30 minutes.
