Music A/S at Immanuel College

Course description

AS/A2 Music is aimed at pupils who have a genuine interest and commitment to Music and who have a good level of practical ability on at least one instrument or voice. The course provides opportunities for pupils to improve their performance and composition skills through coursework as well as their analytical experience and aural skills through the listening assessments.

Course content

Students will be required to work both within the group and independently to produce a range of performance and composition work as well as written and analytical tasks through their studies of various styles of music both traditional and popular. Both courses are extremely demanding but also very rewarding to those pupils who have a genuine interest for music and who demonstrate enthusiasm, determination and commitment to their work. The A2 course builds on those skills and techniques learnt during the AS course.

Entry requirements

It is preferable that you have passed your GCSE Music with at least a Grade C or above. You must be able to play an instrument or sing at a Grade 5 standard.

Future opportunities

Common goals for students are Higher Education courses in Music, but many students have also found Music a rewarding subject to place alongside business, science and Law options.
