AS Units
Unit 1: Physics on the go: Mechanics and materials
Unit 2: Physics at work: Waves, electricity and light
Unit 3: Exploring Physics: Industrial visit or case study and practical

A2 Units
Unit 4: Physics on the Move: The study of further mechanics (momentum and circular motion), electric and magnetic films and particle physics.
Unit 5: Physics from Creation to Collapse: The study of thermal energy, nuclear decay, oscillations, astrophysics, and cosmology.
Unit 6: Experimental Physics: Planning an experiment, carrying out an experiment and analysing experimental results.


Course content

Students will study 2 units which are Paper 1: This paper will examine the following topics. Concept approach ● Mechanics ● Electric Circuit Paper 2: This paper will examine the following topics. Concept approach • Materials • Waves and Particle Nature of Light

Entry requirements

Most students should enter with grade B at GCSE science and must be mathematically confident with minimum grade C.


AS Students will study 2 components and A2 students 3 components

Assessment is by exams and coursework. -

AS candidates will take two exams at the end of the year and one practical coursework.

A2 candidates will take tfour exams at the end of two years and two practical courseworks.
