This one year, full-time course is designed to give a practical introduction for those looking to a gain solid foundation in how to install and support ICT systems and progress into a career within the computer industry. keeping pace with the fast changing information technology sector.
The course will provide learners with the knowledge, skills and experience of hardware, software, networks and systems required to enable effective end-user support at a junior level.
During this course, you will be given opportunities to diagnose and repair faults on PC equipment and be instructed in the safe methods of installing and configuring both hardware and software. Units include:
This unit will enable the learner to provide technical customer support and understand the processes involved in improving the way in which customers use networked ICT systems
Creating an object oriented programming using C++
This unit covers more advanced concepts of object oriented computer languages and their use to implement, refine and test computer programs.
Principles of ICT Systems and Data Security
This unit develops an understanding of the types of threat to ICT systems and data and methods of protecting against them. It also covers an understanding of the applications of cryptography to ICT systems and data.
Testing ICT Systems
This unit will enable the learner to plan, select and implement IT system tests. By the end of the unit, learners will be able to devise standard testing procedures for stand-alone and networked systems using existing test hardware and software; they will also be able to select and apply test procedures for particular situations, compare the results with benchmarks and make recommendations for further action.
Maintain ICT Equipment & Systems
This unit will enable the candidate to maintain ICT networks and multi-user systems.
Designing & Creating advanced websites
The aim of this unit is provide candidates with an advanced understanding of some of the more complex parts of creating a professional business website, it allows them to competently and professionally add elements to sites that will make them easier for function and maintain. Candidates will develop a more in depth understanding of advanced website design and maintenance and the operating system as well as the ability to work in a supervisory role performing advanced tasks with high degree of competence, using problem solving skills and giving direction to others.
Technologies of the Internet
The aim of this unit is to enable learners to understand the principles and the technologies that allow the internet to function and how different types of communications take place. The learner will also learn about securing communications and will develop the skills required to understand how to create, support and maintain the environment that enables the internet in Windows systems.

As a full-time student at Wiltshire College, you will be supported throughout your course by either a Personal Tutor, Academic Advisor or Learning Mentor. You will receive one to one tutorials at least 6 times a year with your allocated member of staff.
The purpose of your one to one tutorial is to ensure that you are making the necessary progress towards the achievement of your main qualification aim and to address any academic or personal issues that you may wish to raise.
In addition you will be encouraged to undertake enrichment activities and events or complete a Personal and Social Development qualification that will help you grow and prosper as an individual, thereby supporting your progression opportunities into further study, training or employment.
Your final qualification will be City and Guilds 7540-13 Level 3 Diploma in IT Systems & Principles with Functional Skills Maths and English at the appropriate level.
Upon completion, it may be possible to progress on to:
