Barbering and Hairdressing City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma / Technical Diploma at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College

Course description

This programme is designed to develop advanced hairdressing skills. The qualification is tailored to meet the needs of the industry.There are two pathways for this qualification, the difference being the assessment process. One has end of year exam and synoptic assessment, the other has continuous assessment and on-line exams.

Course content

Units within the qualification:Health and Safety; Consultation; Creative cutting; Colour/colour correction (Level 4 unit) Creatively style and dress hair; Creative hairdressing design skills and Perming.

Entry requirements

Level 2 or equivalent in Ladies Hairdressing. Mature candidates with appropriate work experience/hairdressing background.4 GCSEs at grade C or above/Maths/English initial assessment at Level 1 or above.

Assessment

Continuous practical observations in a realistic working environment. Theory by Evolve online testing plus additional evidence obtained by research (guidance provided throughout)/End of year synoptic assessment/final exam

Financial information

You will need your full Level 2 kit plus we will recommend that you purchase additional items required for Level 3 hairstyling. You will also need a uniform, 2 x blocks, a cost is incorporated for consumables and a recommended text book.

We offer a bursary that students can apply for help with costs that are associated with a course. This could be help with the cost of travel, books, materials, equipment, uniforms, childcare and examination and registration fees. Future opportunities

Progression to NVQ apprenticeship from VRQ, Full time VRQ in Beauty Therapy or Media Make-up.A range of employment opportunities including salon management, education, cruise liners or further study to Level 4 Diploma/individual awards and related higher education programmes.

Further information

One year, full-time, approximately 2 or 3 days a week (dependent on timetables). A minimum of 95% attendance is required.
