Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) Level 3 Diploma at Ashfield School
This 2 year course will help you to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to become an early year’s practitioner. You will develop working practice by looking at the importance of play, observing children and planning activities to support their development. You will learn how to link practice with theory and understand the importance of supporting individual needs. A compulsory element of the course is spending two days in placement every week as you will need to be able to understand and work to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
Gaining a level 3 qualification gives you a ‘licence to practice’, which means you will be able to work with young children in a range of different jobs.
You will complete a total of 14 units over 2 years. Unit 16 is based on skills in the work place
Five or more A* - C grades which must include GCSE Maths and English.
Knowledge is assessed through a range of written methods including activity plans, reflective accounts and written coursework. Observations are carried out in placement to assess your ability to plan and lead activities linked to curriculum. There are two externally set and marked assessments:
- Effective Practice Study 5,000-word assignment (completed during first year)
- Extended Study 5,000-word assignment (completed during second year)
Once you have achieved your level 3 you will have the choice to either progress onto university or to seek employment in a childcare setting such as a day nursery, nursery school, school reception class, pre-school or be a childminder or a nanny.
