Sport - Development, Coaching & Fitness BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Brooklands College

Course description

The 120-credit BTEC Level 3 Diploma broadens and expands the specialist work-related focus from the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. It is broadly equivalent to two GCE A Levels.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in sport and who wants to gain a qualification to go into employment within the Sport, Health & Fitness industry, Sports Development, Sports Coaching, Activity Leadership or onto a Sport related Higher Education Course. Students must be willing and able to participate in physical activity, as this is a requirement to achieve certain components of the course. The course is a combination of theory and practical units.

Course content

During the course you will study 12 units from a range of areas, example units are shown below:

Core units:
•  Fitness Training and Programming
•  Sports Development

Other subjects
•  Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
•  Sports Nutrition
•  Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise
•  Sports Injuries


Entry requirements

4 GCSE passes at grade C or above.


Modules are assessed individually through coursework and assignments that are set and marked by both internal and external moderators.

Financial information

There is an initial voluntary contribution to be paid at the start of the course for materials and equipment.  You would also be expected to make a voluntary contribution if you wanted to take part in any opportunities that arose throughout the course such as trips or additional qualifications, (e.g. coaching badges). More details on costs will be provided during the application stages.

Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.

Future opportunities

Give full-time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Sport or related areas.
