Chemistry AS/A Level at The Open Academy

Course description

AS level chemistry is the stepping stone to further study in the sciences and a crucial component in the repertoire of any student wishing to complete further study in medicine, forensics and pharmacy.

It is an academically demanding course for those who have a passion for chemistry and are dedicated and committed to a clear career path. The course will develop ideas from GCSE chemistry to further your knowledge of atoms, bonding, compounds and chemical reactions. We will take some of the concepts of GCSE chemistry, rip them up and rebuild them into new and more sophisticated ideas, such as the structure of atoms.

Chemistry is a very practical subject in which you will take part in a large amount of investigative work that will underpin the theories studied.

The AS course will then allow students to complete an A-level in chemistry as the start of a potential career in research science, forensics and medicine.

Entry requirements

Students following level 3 courses will require 5 Cs or above.

You will need a minimum GCSE grade C in chemistry or double/triple science, plus English and Maths to qualify for the course.
