Food Science and Nutrition Level 3 Diploma at Cowley International College

Course description

This is an exciting course that offers students a wealth of
knowledge about Food Science and Nutrition.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about the relationship
between the human body and food, as well as developing
practical skills linked to experimental work and the cooking
and preparation of food.

This course is a level 3 qualification and is the equivalent to
studying for an A-level. The course is recognised by
universities and is suitable for anybody who has an interest in
food science, food production and cooking.

Students will study modules including: planning to meet
nutritional needs, developing practical skills, food production
and experimenting to solve food production issues.

As part of the course, students will work with professional
chefs, visit local businesses, taste new foods, critically assess
diets and develop menus which are nutritionally balanced,
conduct food experiments and develop a range of generic and
transferable skills that are sought after by employers.

Entry requirements

Students will require 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, or BTEC
equivalents. A good level of competence in English Language is
essential.

Future opportunities

By studying this Level 3 Diploma, students will gain the
required knowledge to be able to consider and seek
employment within the food and drink sector of hospitality
and catering, food production or the food retail industry; or to
use the qualification to support entry to higher/further
education courses e.g. BSc Food and Nutrition, BSc Human
Nutrition, BSc (Hons) Public Health Nutrition, BSc (Hons) Food
Science and Technology.

The food industry is one of the biggest employers in the UK
and opportunities for progression are plentiful.
