Course description

Unit 1 - Using ICT to communicate This unit considers the different methods organisations use for internal and external communication. Students create a portfolio of different communications, including a presentation on different methods of communicating information and the technologies that support them. They also compare standard documents used by organisations. Unit 2 - How organisations use ICT This examination unit considers the way organisations are structured and the ways in which they use ICT. Students study how organisations collect, disseminate and use information, how they manage the flow of information between sections or departments and the way they use ICT to access and exchange information. It also focuses on the legal implications when hardware and software are used by employers. Unit 3 - ICT solutions for individuals and society This unit considers the effects of the Internet on society. Students produce a presentation of the results of an investigation, including the use of a spreadsheet and database.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Information and Communication Technology, which could lead onto higher education, BTEC Higher Nationals or NVQ Level 3 and 4 in areas of information and communication technology or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to ICT such as a Web Designer, IT Technician or Software Programmer. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification
