Bridging Year BTEC Level 2 or BTEC Level 3 Childrens' Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) at Casterton College Rutland

Course description

Level 2 - This unique programme is designed for students who want to develop their skills so that they can progress on to a full apprenticeship, a Level 3 vocational course, A levels or into work. It is a full time course based on development of essential skills for learning and for the workplace which provides recognised qualifications, work placements and lots of individual support to help you on the way. It is a complete full time package. You will take a Level 2 BTEC course alongside GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and/or English. In addition you will undertake a series of employability and study skills courses and qualifications to help you progress in future with studies or within the workplace. Students on this programme undertake a number of work placements throughout the one year course.

Level 3 – The full BTEC National Extended Diploma is a full time course equivalent to 3 A levels. It consists of approximately 18 different units over a 2 year programme. For some students, particularly those who need to retake a Maths and English GCSE our smaller Level 3 or bridging year plus programme allows students to study a smaller number of units at Level 3 in year one alongside their GCSE courses. At the end of year one students may progress on to the full Extended Diploma programme

Course content

These brand new courses have been developed to meet the latest recommendations for training workers in the early years sector. With a high level of work experience as part of the course you will gain knowledge, understanding and skills to work with children in a range of settings. Completing these courses can lead directly to employment for example in children's nurseries or on to further or higher education which can lead to a range of careers around children's care, education and development. Children's Play, Learning and Development is available at Level 2 and 3.

Entry requirements

Level 2 - 5 GCSEs grade A*-E

Level 3 - 6 GCSEs grade A*-C

Assessment

Level 3 BTECs are assessed through coursework rather than exams but you will need to be prepared for plenty of independent research and extensive private study and have good IT skills to be successful on these courses.

Future opportunities

Many students progress on to university but these courses also offer excellent routes to Higher Level Apprenticeships and give a good grounding for employment in your chosen sector.
