Physics at YARM SCHOOL
A minimum grade A is normally required in GCSE/IGCSE
Physics. Pupils with a B grade in Physics would be
considered for A-level, but unless they raise achievement
significantly they would be unlikely to progress beyond AS
level. Pupils who have taken a Dual Award course would be
expected to gain A/A grades. We would expect pupils to
also have achieved a ‘pass’ in GCSE Mathematics. Physics
does depend increasingly on a facility in Mathematics in the
Sixth Form and anyone weak in Mathematics should think
seriously before taking up Physics at AS or A-level. Students
who are also studying Mathematics at AS or A-level usually
find that they have an advantage in Physics.
