Course description

Why should I come to Runshaw to study Core Mathematics?

This course is particularly suitable for those students who are doing the following A Level subjects; Psychology, Economics, Business Studies, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Computer Science; and are not planning on doing A Level Maths alongside. The course content provides support with the maths content in these subjects.

The course is also suitable for students that enjoy maths but are not doing an A Level in Mathematics.

The pass rate for 2018 on this course was 100%, with 81% of students achieving A-B grades.

What will I study?

The course has a more problem solving approach with real world maths applications that are required in the above subjects.

Some examples of what you will cover:

  • Analysis of data
  • Maths for personal finance
  • Statistics and probability
  • Critical analysis of given data and models (including spreadsheets and tabular data)

Entry requirements

For access to our A Level Programme, our entry requirements are 5 x Grade 5 equivalent (5 x Grade 5 or B) in a range of separate subjects.

For Core Maths specifically, this should include a Grade 5 in Maths.

Assessment

How is the course assessed?

You will sit two exams at the end of the year.

Financial information

No course fees are applicable for 16-18 year old learners who meet funding regulations.
