BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care at Theale Green School
Health and Social Care explores a number of topics that equip the student with the necessary skills to work in a Health and Social Care sector. Early units focus on communication skills and students are given the opportunity to spend time in local children’s nurseries, elderly residential homes and our SEN and ASD unit.
Students are taught the basics of communication skills and will practise in a Health and Social setting, skills such as bedside manner, speaking to young children or with patients that have difficulties in expressing themselves orally. The course then moves on to study other topics such as creative and therapeutic activities which can help people recover from illness.
Students will be given the opportunity to explore various Health and Social Care settings in 10 units of work. 8 of the units are coursework which is in a portfolio format which includes a range of tasks (reports, diagrams, presentations, leaflets, posters and work experience): 2 of the units are examinations which are externally assessed.
