BTEC Level 3 Diploma in ICT at Merchants’ Academy

Course description

Why should I choose ICT?

ICT is run in our state of the art ICT classrooms and computer build room. All of the resources are available though our virtual learning environments on line. Students taking this course will develop a wide ranging skills which will prepare them for either working in ICT or going on to complete a degree in ICT related subject.

Course content

These are some of the units covered on our course:

• Computer Systems

• Information Systems

• Computer Networks

• Digital Graphics

• Developing Computer Games

• Installing, Upgrading and Maintaining Computer Systems

• Website Production

• Animation


The course is assessed though a portfolio of work built up over two years, there are no external exams involved. You have many chances to go back and improve work to achieve a higher grade. All students last year achieved at least 1 grade above their targets.

    • Merchants’ Academy Sixth Form aims to provide students with knowledge, understanding and experiences that are essential for the successful transition from school to university, employment or further training. We therefore offer a wide variety of enrichment activities to appeal to the different interests of all our students. We hope that they will leave Merchants’ Academy with a unique set of memories, knowing they have gained more than their academic qualifications. This helps to ensure their CV and UCAS application will stand out from the crowd. This, alongside the excellent careers’ guidance and our supportive tutor system, will mean that they receive the individual support necessary for them to be successful in their future.

      We know that post 16 students are faced with choices and decisions which will change their futures and shape their lives.
