Music BTEC Diploma Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

If you play an instrument or sing, are passionate about performing and are interested in developing your talents further whilst learning new skills, then this one-year course is the course for you.

Throughout your course you’ll play at various commercial venues in and around the city and you’ll learn and rehearse in state-of-the-art studios and practice rooms at our ncn Clarendon campus.

Students on this Level 2 course get more opportunities to perform than in any other music course in Nottingham.

When you finish this course there are options to study Music or Music Technology at Level 3. There are also plenty of opportunities to gain work experience with one of our industry partners and this can lead on to further experience and employment within the industry.

Course content

Your course is packed full of opportunities to practice and perform as a singer, soloist or in a band. You’ll be given a unique insight into the music industry and you’ll develop an understanding of how the business works. You’ll also study a number of units designed to develop your skills in:

•Music technology
•Song-writing
•Ear training
•Recording
•Music theory

Entry requirements

  • Students must have ONE of the following:

    •4 GCSEs (3 at grades A*-D and 1 at grade A*-E), including English & Maths
    •Level 1 Creative & Media Diploma or Introductory Music Level 1 at merit, plus GCSE English and Maths (1 at grade A*-D and 1 at grade A*-E)
    •Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE Maths and/or English

    You will need to have some ability to understand music theory at ABRSM grade 1 standard. This will be assessed at interview. You will need to demonstrate some practical ability as a singer or musician at the interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed on practical tasks, projects and productions, supported by a record of evidence.
