Intermediate Level 2 Diploma Make-Up Artistry at Bournville College

Course description

The make-up industry is a fast paced, exciting industry. Make-up artists usually work long, irregular hours and the majority work on a freelance basis. A qualified make-up artist can expect to earn between £200-£300 per day for a drama, light entertainment or low budget film, however individuals who are well regarded in the industry are in great demand and can earn considerably more.

This career pathway will take you to a variety of different environments; dressing rooms, outdoor locations, film sets, catwalk shows, film and television studios. No day is ever the same!

Course content

This qualification will cover a variety of units that will enable you to develop a wide range of technical skills and develop vital employability skills.

You will also have the opportunity to work on various external live brief projects such as; Zombie Apocalypse.

Entry requirements

Grade C or above in English and maths.
Commitment, passion and a drive to succeed in the make-up industry. Good inter personal skills are essential and an artistic flare an advantage.


A variety of assessment methods will be used. Your practical assessments will take place in our studio, the tutor will provide you with clear, constructive feedback through formative assessment to enable you to achieve high final grades.

Underpinning knowledge will be assessed through on-line examinations and assignment work.

Future opportunities

Upon completion of the Make-up Artistry Intermediate Diploma course you can progress onto the Makeup Artistry Advanced Diploma Level 3.
