AS / A Level - Art, Craft and Design at Blackpool Sixth Form College

Course description

This diverse A level Art, Craft and Design course offers a wide range of techniques spanning both traditional and contemporary practice. Students will have opportunities to explore and specialise in a variety of methods from photography to painting or sculpture. All projects are personalised and we highly encourage individuals to further explore and develop their ideas.

Course content

 

AS Art, Craft and Design Year includes:

  • Research into relevant artists/designer makers/crafts people
  • Mixed media approachesincluding stitch
  • Sculptural techniques includingwire
  • Externally set exam project
  • Opportunity to work with practicing artists

A2 Art, Craft and Design Year includes:

  • Specialist media exploration
  • 1000 essay to complement your specialist coursework project
  • Externally set exam project
  • Opportunity to exhibit work in the end of year show
  • Opportunity to work with practicing artists

Entry requirements

A grade C or above in a GCSE Art and Design subject or BTEC equivalent. Students without an Art and Design GCSE are required to present a portfolio/ selection of their work at interview

Assessment

50% exam and 50% coursework in both AS and A2

Exam board: AQA GCE Art & Design ARTA

Future opportunities

Past students have successfully progressed onto art and design based courses at university. Employment destinations have included working for the Art Council, galleries, museums, art education, art therapy, architecture whilst others have achieved great success as independent artists and designers.
