Course description

Course content

Students will study a range of issues, including:

  • How the Law has developed over the centuries.
  • The relationship between law and morality – e.g. Should the Law interfere in one’s personal life and to what extent?
  • What happens to someone who is charged with a crime?
  • What is the procedure for suing someone?
  • How do Judges reach their decisions?

LA2: Understanding Legal Reasoning, Personnel and Methods

  • European Law
  • Legislation
  • Statutory Interpretation
  • Precedent
  • Legal Personnel

Year 13

LA3: Law and Criminal Justice Positive Law

  • Criminal Answerability
  • Elements of positive Criminal Law
  • Police Power

LA4: Law and Legal Criminal Justice Understanding the Law in context

  • Prosecution process and Criminal trial
  • Sentencing
  • Principles of Law and Criminal Justice

Assessment

LA1:

  • 25% of A Level
  • Written Examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

LA2:

  • 25% of A Level
  • Written Examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

LA3:

  • 20% of A Level
  • Written Examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

LA4:

  • 30% of A Level
  • Written Examination: 2 hours 30 minutes
