Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3 Extended Diploma at Nelson and Colne College

Course description

On this 2 year programme you will learn the knowledge and skills to progress to university or into employment. You will learn about the development of children from birth to seven years old, looking at how children learn, how to plan activities and aspects of health and safety.

Professional practice portfolio

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above (in a minimum of 3 different subject areas) including Maths and English or a Level 2 Diploma (Merit/Distinction) and preferably a grade C in Maths and English.


You will be assessed through a combination of written and practical work and externally marked assessments. This course includes two days of practical experience within a real work environment.

Future opportunities

Former students are studying at a number of universities including the University of Leeds, Liverpool Hope University, Edge Hill University and Leeds Trinity University, studying for degrees including Childhood Studies, Childhood, Youth and Education and Early Childhood and Education.

They go on to achieve rewarding careers in Childcare and some go on to work as Teachers or Classroom Assistants. Level 2 students can also apply for one of our Apprenticeships with a number of local nurseries.
