Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) AS Level at Sydenham School - Sydenham and Forest Hill Sixth Form
The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) offers Sixth Form students the opportunity to study a topic of their own choice in depth and produce a final dissertation and presentation.
It is a free-standing AS qualification graded A* - E and its purpose is to add a further dimension to Sixth-Form study and to provide further stretch and challenge.
Students will be able to apply for this course once they have completed their Year 12 examinations in June.
The EPQ gives you the chance to follow your interests, to be curious and enquiring. It also allows you to develop the sorts of research skills valued by universities. For this reason many universities are very positive about this qualification and some will make students who are taking it a favourable offer.
During the EPQ, students will learn to
- Manage - identify, design, plan, and complete a project (or a task within a group project), applying organisational skills and strategies to meet their stated objectives.
- Use resources/research – obtain and select information from a range of sources, analyse data, apply it relevantly, and demonstrate understanding of any appropriate connections and complexities of their topic.
- Develop and realise – use a range of skills, including using new technologies, to solve problems, to take decisions critically, creatively and flexibly, and to achieve their aims.
- Review – evaluate the outcome, including their learning and performance.
Students should be predicted to achieve at least three C grades at A Level or Merit at BTEC
