Animal Care Land Based Studies Level 1 at Malvern Hills College
This course provides a stepping stone for those who want to work with animals. It is ideal for those students with limited practical experience and would like to learn about a broad range of animals and is suitable for a wide range of students in terms of age, ability and circumstances.
Subjects covered on this course will include:
• Animal feeding, accommodation, moving and handling
• Animal health
• Practical work with small animals, horses and farm animals
• Complete 111 hours at a work placement
• You will also study two Functional Skills in English and Maths
How will I be studying?
You will complete assignment work to cover the assessment criteria along with practical assessments. As part of your course work you will also complete projects, posters and presentations. You will attend a work placement and evidence of this will be required for your qualification. Trips to local farms and stables will make up a substantial part of the course so that working with the animals can be experienced and evidence used for your course work.
You will need to have two GCSEs at Grade D - G, or an Entry 3 qualification. You should be interested in working with animals, including horses and farm animals and be willing to complete practical tasks both inside and outside. All applicants will need to have a successful interview and be able to provide a reference.
Upon successful completion of the Level 1 BTEC Introductory Diploma in Land Based Studies, where you have demonstrated a strong commitment and capability on the course and have achieved a Merit or above, have sufficient GCSE grades and following a successful interview, you can progress on to the Level 2 qualification.
