Performing Arts Level 1 at Stoke on Trent College

Course description

This highly popular and exciting course will introduce you to all aspects of the performing arts industry.  Through practical projects you will learn and develop skills in dance, drama and musical theatre, which will prepare you for a full scale performance in our own theatre space at the end of the academic year.  Our projects introduce: integration and appreciation of dance, drama and musical theatre, learning and developing new techniques, as well as creative and devising skills for your own work.

Entry requirements

2 GCSEs grade E-G (new 1-2 in English/Maths), Entry Level 3, or another relevatnt Entry level qualification.  You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.


Assessment takes place through internally devised adn marked assignments which will be moderated by the awarding body.

Future opportunities

This will qualification will not lead you directly into employment but will provide you with the required ability to apply for a Level 2 Diploma in related areas: Performing Arts, Music Performance & Technology or Production Arts & Technical Theatre.

Maths and English will also form an important part of your course; they are skills that we use and need within our study, work and everyday life.  We have a wide range of high quality specialised facilities here including a theatre, dance studio, lighting and sound equipment, which you will experience during your study.   These in turn will allow you to prepare fully for progression of study in Performing Arts, or employment in the industry.  At Stoke on Trent College we have some of the most comprehensive and up to date facilities in the country:  the Learning Resource Centres are designed to help and support you by offering information technology facilities, workshops and libraries, our Learning Support is available to enhance your learning by supporting weaker elements and learning difficulties
