Course description

Business Studies is an increasingly popular subject which is appropriate to practically every employment area. This course investigates business from varying perspectives including employees, management and consumers. It is a subject which complements the majority of other subject areas available in Westlands Sixth Form.Business Studies at KS5 is a demanding, exciting and challenging subject which aims to provide students with the opportunity to investigate a number of business issues and areas. You will study local, national and international businesses and the strategies that they use to move forward.The emphasis is on practically applying skills and knowledge. The BTEC model is one where students are expected to be able to recreate the theory of what they are learning in as close to a real world environment as possible. Assessments will be varied and mirror how you would apply these skills in the real world.In addition to developing an understanding of the business world, students will gain skills in report and essay writing, problem solving and analytical investigation. They will have the opportunity for role-play, giving presentations, acting through scenarios and developing their group work skills. All of these give the students obvious advantages in the job and education market.
