EDEXCEL AS & AS2 Drama and Theatre Studies at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (Blurton)
You will demonstrate practical understanding of a minimum of one complete and substantial performance text and a minimum of two key extracts from two different texts, placed in the context of the whole text.
Students must study the work and methodologies of one influential theatre practitioner (individual or companies)
A minimum of one performance from a text studied during the course.
The course will be delivered through a range of lectures, seminars and workshops that enable you to become a creative and imaginative theatre practitioner. This will be grounded in the academic study of theatre arts and practitioners to ensure you are fully prepared to perform well in the controlled assessments.
You will study Stanislavski, Brecht and play texts from a variety of historical periods and a range of genres. Alongside this there will be regular theatre trips to enhance you theatrical diet and to prepare you for your ‘Performance Review’ controlled assessment.
To be successful on this course you must have a keen interest in Theatre Arts and be willing to take part in acting performances. Previous performance experience will be an advantage. You must also meet the basic entry requirements for OSSMA Sixth Form - 5A*-C GCSE grades including English and Maths.
Assessed through a combination of a 40% written exam and 60% non examined assessment.
