Spanish at The Sixth Form College Colchester

Course description

This course will help to build upon the skills gained at GCSE. The AS course helps students to learn  about the mechanics of the language, and to find out more about topics based on themes such as social issues, politics and history. By the end of the year students will have acquired extensive knowledge of one 'work' such as a film or novel, and will be able to express their own views on a range of issues. Students will explore the social and cultural context of the language via texts drawn from textbooks, magazines, newspapers, and relevant websites. The spanish department was recently identified as one of the top three Spanish language teaching centres in England and Wales by the Spanish embassy in London. The award recognises that the course offers students much more than just the acquisition of improved language skills, by adding a range of opportunities to gain real insight into modern Spanish and South American lifestyle, current affairs and culture. The college organises regular eeducational visits to Spanish-speaking countries. The examinations cover the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
