Level 2 Hairdressing at Leeds City College

Course description

This course provides an excellent opportunity for students to enter this excising and creative world. It is designed to help students launch a new career or progress their existing skills as a stylist.

Course content

This course is designed to give students the skills and knowledge of a professional stylist and will include a selection of the following:

Working in the hair industry

Follow health and safety in the salon

Client consultation for hair services

Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

Promote products and services to clients in a salon

Cut women’s hair

Colour and lighten hair

Perm and neutralise hair

The art of dressing hair

Optional units:

Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

Display Stock to promote sales in salon

Scalp massage

Salon reception duties

Style and finish African type hair

Relax African type hair

Plaiting and twisting hair

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at least grades C-D including Maths and English or a Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing with the appropriate level of English and Maths.

Assessment

Practical assessments will be carried out on clients who visit the college salons. You will be required to meet minimum standards and timings set by the awarding body.

Knowledge is assessed throughout the course in a variety of methods, including online testing, written tests and oral questions, distance learning methods are also included

Future opportunities

You may progress into employment as a stylist or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a salon, or further progress to full/part time Level 3 at Keighley College.
