Economics A Level at Titus Salt School

Course description

Economics affects our lives on a daily basis. The decisions that we make and those which are made on our behalf (e.g. by the Government) have a direct impact on our standard of living. Economics helps us make sense of those decisions and can help us to make the best of them. You will study a combination of Micro and Macroeconomics. Microeconomics examines the decisions made by individuals and individual firms, for example, including how prices are formed and profits are maximised. Macroeconomics examines the bigger picture, examining the issues that dominate the political landscape including unemployment, inflation, taxation, our deficits in both trade with the rest of the world and public finances. An interest in issues such as ‘Were we right to vote for Brexit?’, ‘Should we divert funds from renewing Trident to the NHS?’ and ‘Are we right to build HS2’ along with good mathematical and communication skills are required for success in the subject.
