Course description

This course challenges students to design and make 3D products with creativity and originality using a range of materials and techniques. Students are encouraged to develop their knowledge and understanding of different design styles, material properties and industrial practices. Through research and practical investigations design problems are identified and solved with careful consideration of the clients’ needs and social and environmental impacts. Over the two year course students are expected to fulfil a personal investigation and an externally set exam theme. These projects will be portfolio based providing students with a portfolio of work including sketchbooks, presentation boards, three-dimensional prototypes and a final piece for each project. A practical exam will be taken at the end of Year 13; the topic will be set by the examination board. Students are able to use equipment and resources from the other VA & DT disciplines such as photography, graphics and textiles.
