Health & Social Care Apprenticeship at Furness College

Course description

This apprenticeship contains pathways that cover many aspects of this industry, from working in the Care sector with old and young people to starting out in the Health sector working with colleagues in the medical profession.

Course content

Apprentice – Level 2
This qualification will give you the starting point from which to specialise in your chosen pathway. Training may include: Improving Productivity using IT, Health & Safety, Develop own effectiveness and professionalism, maintaining software and systems and program development.

Advanced Apprentice – Level 3
At this level you will be taking more responsibility in the workplace and may be supervising others. Training may include: promote communication, engage in personal development, promote equality and inclusion, principles for implementing duty of care, principles of safeguarding and protection, promote and implement health and safety and promote good practice in handling information.

Entry requirements

These are dependent on the sector and the criteria of some employers, but they are normally:

Apprentice Level 2: A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A – E or an equivalent qualification.

Advanced Apprentice Level 3: An Apprenticeship at Level 2 or other equivalent qualification.


The apprenticeship is assessed on practical aptitude, a portfolio of work and external assessment. The technical certificate is assessed in your lessons through assignments set by your tutors. Maths and English are assessed by examination and a portfolio of evidence.

Financial information

There are no specific extra costs, just stationery for study.

Future opportunities

Once the Apprenticeship has finished there is the opportunity to carry on working, maybe get promoted or if appropriate, progress onto advanced level apprenticeships. In some instances you can go on to higher education in a college or university.
