Introduction to Health and Social Care BTEC Level 1 (QCF) at Shipley College

Course description

This course gives you a fantastic introduction to working with adults in health & social care settings or working with children.

You will learn about Being Organised, Developing a Personal Progression Plan, Communication Skills for Health and Social Care, Advising Others About Healthy Lifestyles.

You complete a unit on the experience of work and visit a range of health & social care and childcare settings to help you decide where you would like to work in the future.

You also learn skills which help you with your studies and getting a job such as Personal & Social Development.

In addition, gain important Functional Skills qualifications in maths and English..

Entry requirements

  • 2 GCSEs at grade E (2) or above in both English & maths; however, GCSE grade D (3) would be preferable.
  • We will do an assessment to find out if this course is right for you.
  • You need to have a positive attitude and a keen interest in caring for all ages.
  • You will be invited to a ‘taster’ session to find out more about the course.

Future opportunities

After completing this course, you can progress on to the Health & Social Care or Children’s Care, Learning & Development BTEC Level 2 or on to an apprenticeship in Children’s Care, Learning & Development or Health & Social Care. You could also find work as an assistant in a childcare, or care of the elderly setting.
