Course description

The students currently follow the Edexcel GCSE English Language course.

Course content

Unit 1 English Today (controlled assessment 20%):

English in the daily world

Developing studying written language (reading) skills to analyse contemporary non-fiction texts.

Developing writing skills to express ideas and information clearly and accurately

Unit 2 The Writer’s Voice (1hr 45 mins examination 60%)

Developing studying written language (reading) skills in analysing writers’ choices of linguistic, grammatical and structural features.

The study of one text from the Edexcel list specified in the unit. This will be either Of Mice and Men or Heroes

Developing writing skills to respond to situations, issues or problems and to use supporting evidence

Unit 3 Spoken Language Study (controlled assessment 20%)

Developing skills in analysing the spoken language that we hear and use

Developing skills in writing spoken language by analysing language from a range of sources.
