French (A Level) at Roundhay School All through education from 4 to 18

Course description

  • Opportunity to do work experience in country of target language
  • Small teaching groups.
  • Weekly lesson with Language assistant.
  • Weekly lessons in ICT Suite.
  • Fortnightly grammar lessons.
  • Language days at Universities, e.g. Cambridge, Manchester and Leeds.

Course content

This is a linear course and will follow the EDExcel specification

Theme 1 - Changes in French society

Theme 2 - Political and artistic culture in French speaking countries

Theme 3 - Imigration and French multi-cultural society

Theme 4 - The Occupation and the French resistance

 

 

Entry requirements

General entry requirement:

Students should achieve GCSE grade 5 in English Language and Mathematics plus 3 further GCSE grades 9-4 (or grade C in non-reformed qualifications) AND meet the individual subject specific requirements.

Plus French Grade 6

Assessment

100% examination comprising:

 

Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Writing 2 hours. 40% of total qualification

 

Paper 2: Written response to work and translation 2 Hours 40 mins 30% of total qualification

 

Paper 3:  Speaking 21-23 minutes 30% of the total qualification
