Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at The Hazeley Academy
The Drama and Theatre Studies A Level will be made up of two one-year courses with external assessment at the end of each academic year. Students will attain an AS at the end of Year 12 and a full A Level at the end of Year 13.
Drama and Theatre Studies is a practical, intellectual and artistic subject. Students study and explore the structural elements of theatre from the page to the stage learning about key practitioners and styles that have shaped theatre today. Students will always be asked to approach all work practically, testing new theories within their own work, this makes for a different approach to an A Level. In both years, students have to work on group productions and individual performances, which is a highly rewarding experience.
Students should have a minimum grade of a B in GCSE Drama.
The course is recognised as being an entirely suitable qualification for entrance to both universities and other higher education establishments. Similarly, employers have become increasingly aware of the interpersonal skills and independent learning styles the course develops and engenders.
Previous students studying this course have looked for a career in the Arts, going on to study at, for example, The Central School of Speech and Drama or RADA. The training developed on this course leads naturally into performance and presentation.
