A Level Music - Invicta Grammar School at Valley Park School
Music inspires creativity and expression in a way that no other subject can. The new A Level Music offers you the chance to study a wider range of musical genres, bringing listening, performance and composition to life in new and engaging way. Students seeking to study Music at A Level must achieve a minimum of a B grade at GCSE music or its equivalent. You should have a Grade 5 or higher practical qualification either as a singer or as an instrumentalist, and be confident performers. You should also be musically literate; it is expected that students are fluent in both treble and bass clefs and have some experience of music dictation. The core content of the course includes appraising music, performance and composition. You will be assessed in all three components at the end of the course. A Level Music builds on the knowledge and skills gained from GCSE Music as well as musical experience gained outside the classroom. It recognises the interdependence of different aspects of musical activity. A Level Music provides a sound preparation for the study of music in higher education, as well as providing opportunities to develop strengths and interests leading to music related and other careers. It helps you develop a wide range of transferable skills such as critical thinking, research, communication and team-work.
