German AS/ A2 at Dixons City Academy

Course description

The knowledge and skills acquired at GCSE are developed through the study of a variety of contemporary issues.  A more sophisticated use of language is developed within this study using authentic source materials.

Course content

AS and A2, which together make up the full A Level, focus on the use of contemporary language through the study of a range of specific topics of interest to young adults.  The knowledge and skills acquired at GCSE are developed through the study of a variety of contemporary issues at AS level.  The A2 course develops a more sophisticated use of language within the study of additional contemporary issues with the opportunity to focus on an area of particular interest to the student. Authentic materials such as magazine and newspaper articles and interactive websites are used to supplement course texts, with a wide range of available audio-visual materials.  Students following the AS and A2 courses will be encouraged to spend time in a country where the language is spoken (e.g. by participating in an exchange visit), and to participate in organised activities such as MFL conferences and screenings of foreign language films.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including Maths and English and Grade B in their chosen language. Students should be aware of the intellectual range of language studied at this level.
