Course description

The AQA GCSE Design Technology - Resistant Materials syllabus is for those students who have a keen interest and ability to solve real problems or systems in a wide range of contexts.

Course content

Unit 1: Resistant Materials written paper

Unit 2: Resistant Materials Task (Design and Making)

Entry requirements

Optional Course - Has shown good attainment and effort at Key Stage 3..


Unit 1 is a 2 hour exam paper which is worth 40% of the total marks.

Unit 2 consists of a single design and make activity selected from a range of Board set tasks.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Design and Technology or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to Design and Technology and Electronics such as an Technician, Electrician or Design Engineer. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
