Course description


Unit 1 – A World Divided: Communism and Democracy in the 20th Century.  Pursuing Life and Liberty: Equality in the USA, 1945-68  Ideology, Conflict and Retreat: the USA in Asia, 1950-73

Unit 2 – Early Modern British History: Crown and Authority.  Henry VIII: Authority, Nation and Religion, 1509-40


Unit 3 – The Challenge of Fascism.  From Kaiser to Fuhrer: Germany, 1900-45

Unit 4 – Historical Enquiry (Coursework):  Crime and Punishment in Britain, c1830-1965 Possible visit to National Archives to aid coursework research.

Entry requirements

In order to access this course students must have achieved a minimum of A* - C in 5 different subjects including English and Maths at GCSE Level. To study History at AS and A2, you do not have to have studied History at GCSE, but must be prepared to have ideas and an interest in what has made the world as we see it now
