Physics A Level at Oasis Academy Brightstowe
How did the universe begin? What happens in the quantum world? What does E=mc2 tell us about matter and energy? What are the most fundamental particles?
Physics is about the big ideas and for those who are intrigued by them. Physics is also the science behind much of our modern world. What are the forces acting on an aircraft? How does a wind farm work? What are the risks of nuclear power?
Physicists are excellent problem solvers, using mathematical acumen and logical deduction to draw conclusions and apply theories to real-life issues. This makes physics a very valued subject in all walks of life.
You will study the following modules in A level physics (ASQualification: Modules 1-4 only)
Module 1 - Development of practical skills in physics
Module 2 - Foundations of physics
Module 3 - Forces and motion
Module 4 - Electrons, waves and photons
Module 5 - Newtonian world and astrophysics
Module 6 - Particles and medical physics
A diverse range of teaching approaches will be used to develop the theoretical and practical aspects of this course. Every lesson will challenge you to think in new ways and explore new ideas. In any lesson you may be giving a presentation, participating in a discussion, solving problems, using Excel for mathematical modelling or carrying out an experiment. Practical skills are an important part of this course and a love of mathematics is a huge advantage when using formulae to make predictions and to solve problems.
A level physics is an impressive qualification, which can aid entry into many careers or university courses, for example:
- engineering, medical courses, scientific research and computing.
A level physics students also use their highly developed skills in quantitative reasoning, analysis and synthesis to succeed in business, finance and law. Physics may also be desirable for technical roles in some creative industries.
