Further Mathematics A Level at Lytham Sixth Form College

Course description

With highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, mathematicians are ideally suited to careers in areas such as finance, insurance, manufacturing, teaching, design, quality control, the social sciences, engineering, management and business. This one-year AS programme features the following main areas of study: Complex Numbers; Matrices; Numerical Solutions; Series and Decision Mathematics. Successful students have the option of progressing through to A2 level and then on to university, where they could continue their study of Mathematics or channel their aptitude for the abstract towards one of the following disciplines: the sciences, engineering, economics, medicine, business and accountancy, computing or management.

Entry requirements

In order to study this A level programme students must gain 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C including Maths at grade A.


A Levels are assessed by a mixture of coursework and exams.
