Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Grantham College

Course description

This course aims to provide a practical base for anyone wishing to work within the science industry, with an emphasis on Medical Science. 

This is an exciting new course and on completion it will provide you with the opportunity to progress your interest in science further - either by entering higher education or taking up employment in the scientific sector.

Course content

Subjects studied cover a variety of scientific topics, such as:

  • Anatomy & physiology
  • Forensic evidence collection & analysis
  • Fundamentals of science
  • Genetics & genetic engineering
  • Practical chemical analysis
  • Scientific investigation
  • Scientific practical techniques
  • Physiological diagnostic principles
  • Biomedical science
  • Working in the science industry

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs (Grade C or above) including English, maths and double science, or equivalent.



Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

This course can lead directly on to a higher education course (degree/HND) in applied sciences, forensic science, or other science related courses. Alternatively, employment opportunities include various science technician roles across education and industry, including schools and hospitals and research laboratory work.
