Fashion A Level at Alsager School

Course description

Product Design Fashion A-Level gives you the opportunity to develop your capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. The subject will enable you to take a broad view of design and technology and to develop a wide range of skills, including working with others, thinking creatively and making quality products. Over the two years there are four main areas of study. Unit One is titled “Materials, components and Application, this is the examination part to your first year. Unit Two is titled “Learning through designing and making” and is the practical, coursework part of year one. During year two you will work on Unit Three entitled “Design and manufacture, this is the examination part of year two. Lastly there is Unit Four titled “Design and Making in Practice” and is the practical part to year two.

Entry requirements

You will require five GCSE passes at C or above. GCSE Fashion would be an advantage. Please speak with a member of staff if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.

Future opportunities

Fashion Design could take you into a number of exciting career paths. Of course being a fashion and textile designer is a natural outcome, but there are other job prospects like working as an interior designer or in fashion merchandising and buying. The advertising and marketing profession always need creative people too as does the manufacturing industry. If you are interested in becoming a stylist in fashion this would also be an ideal starting point.
