Design and Technology and Textiles A Level at Waddesdon CofE School
This course aims to encourage students to take a broad view of Deign and Technology. It also develops students' capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.
Unit 1: Materials, Components and Application
2 hrs Written Paper:
50% of total AS marks, 25% of total A-Level marks
This paper is based primarily on Materials and Components
Unit 2: Learning through Designing and Making
Coursework (approx 50 hours): 50% of total AS marks, 25% of total A-Level marks
- Written (or electronic) design portfolio
- Manufactured outcomes
- Coursework may take a number of forms: a single design-and-make project, two smaller projects and/or a portfolio of work.
Unit 3: Design and Manufacture
2 hrs Written Paper, 25% of total A-Level marks
This paper is based primarily on Design and Manufacture.
Unit 4: Design and Making Practice
Coursework (approx. 60 hours): 25% of total A-Level marks
- Written (or electronic) design folder
- Manufactured outcome
- Candidates submit evidence of a single, substantial designing and making activity.
Students should have a broad academic background and should have undertaken a course that provides a solid foundation for AS and A-Level work: courses such as Textiles Technology, Graphic Products or Art Textiles would provide a suitable basis.
Students should have a strong interest in designing, modelling, manufacturing and evaluating products.
