Mathematics GCSE Re-sit at Middlesbrough College

Course description

The course is intended for students who have recently attempted the AQA GCSE Mathematics exam but need to re-sit. It is an 8 week course covering the 3 modules of Number and Algebra, Statistics and Geometry. The course is taught at Foundation level but opportunity to take the Higher level is available for students capable of independently studying at this level.

Course content

Students study Number, Algebra, Statistics and Geometry. There are no optional modules.

Entry requirements

Evidence of recently obtaining a good Grade D in AQA GCSE Mathematics is essential.


Assessment is by three written papers taken in November. Unit 1 (Statistics) is 27%, Unit 2 (Number and Algebra) is 33% and Unit 3 (Geometry) is 40%.

Future opportunities

A grade C in GCSE Mathematics is essential for many Higher Education courses and several careers including Teaching, Nursing, Engineering and Science related work. The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance.
