Chemistry A Level at Stationers Crown Woods Academy

Course description

YOU ARE The sort of student who wishes to develop your practical, critical and analytical skills. You’ll have a natural curiosity about the nature of the world we live in and what it is made from. Many universities see Chemistry as very desirable, particularly if you have a good range of A level subjects.

Course content

An established and successful course that is dynamic, demanding and popular. You will develop analytical, practical and research skills that will equip you for future study not only in the chemical sciences, but other subjects as well.

AS: Atoms and Reactions; Electrons, Bonding and Structure; the Periodic Table; Hydrocarbons; Alcohols, Halogenoalkanes ; Energy Resources. Coursework is 20% of AS.

A2: Chromatography, Amino Acids, Synthetic Routes, Transition Elements, Azo Dyes, Acid–base Equilibria, Rate Equations, Entropy and Free Energy, Electrode Potentials.

Entry requirements

Grade B in Additional GCSE Science or a B grade in GCSE Chemistry (from triple science.)


Exam based.

Future opportunities

A Research Chemist or employed in the chemical industry. You also could become a Food Scientist, Doctor, Dentist, Pharmacist, Pharmacologist, Nurse, Medical Technician, Chemical Engineer, Teacher, Forensic Scientist, Medical Sales Rep or Vet, to name but a few
