ICT A Level at The Marches School and Technology College

Course description

The course is designed to encourage learners to become discerning users of ICT.
It allows you to develop a broad range of ICT skills, knowledge and understanding
and provides an ideal foundation for those who wish to pursue ICT at degree level
or as a career.
It enables you to develop the essential skills needed to apply ICT to the real world,
for example presentation and project management skills.
You explore the latest technologies, for example Bluetooth, broadband and global
positioning systems.
There is now a greater emphasis on encouraging practical skills, and coursework
has been retained as the best method for assessing them.

Entry requirements

We ask that students applying to the
Sixth Form have a minimum of 5 GCSEs
A*– C Grade and aim for a B Grade in
their chosen subject of study (predicted
It is perfectly acceptable to apply to study
a subject that you did not choose at GCSE.
You will be invited to attend a short,
informal interview with the Head of Sixth
Form to discuss your application and talk
through your options. All places offered will
be conditional until you have received your
GCSE results in August and enrolment will
take place on GCSE Results Day.
There will be various ‘Road to Sixth
Form’ events and activities taking place
throughout the year, to ensure a smooth
transition into post-16 study and to
provide you with all the information you
require to make fully informed decisions.
