English Literature A-Level at Christ's College Finchley
Our Beliefs and Values
The students are at the centre of our practice and we aim to encourage independent reading, literacy, creative writing and speaking and listening. Books are chosen from reputable lists. We are all avid readers and like to encourage independent reading of a wide range of fiction through reading lists and website recommendations. With ipads now at our disposal we are exploring the use of digital images and technology to improve and enhance boys’ learning experience.
Our Aims and Objectives
To foster enjoyment of literature and to support the role of citizenship through exploring related themes in fiction and drama and to encourage the confidence to debate and discuss these issues in front of others and to express these views clearly in writing or online. To provide a learning experience that extends beyond the students years in school and the classroom.
For studying at Advanced Level
Applicants must achieve a minimum average GCSE score of 40 points (where A* counts 58 points, A as 52, B as 46, C as 40, etc.). Students who have studied at BTEC Level 2 must have achieved a high Merit grade as a minimum. In addition there are GCSE requirements for individual subjects, where they are oversubscribed. Where subjects are oversubscribed, places will be offered to students in rank order of their average point score.
Subject specific requirements
A Grade B is the normal requirement in the subject you wish to study at Advanced Level but a Grade B does not guarantee acceptance on to the course. Where a course is under-subscribed consideration will be given to those candidates who marginally fail to meet the entry requirements.
For the English Lit A-Level specifically you must achieve the following:
GCSE English - B
