Financial Studies A Level at The Leventhorpe School

Course description

Students study two units during Year 12 which leads to the ifs Certificate in Financial Studies. Unit 1 looks at short term finance from the viewpoint of customers and the financial providers. Unit 2 again takes the same viewpoint but for medium and long term financial products and services. This course provides a vital grounding in the world of personal finance which is vital to any young person, either aspiring to attend university or enter employment once they leave school.

Students study a further two units during the second year which allows for the award of the Diploma for Financial Studies. Unit 3 looks at Financial Capability for individuals in the immediate and short term whilst Unit 4 looks at individuals’ financial capability over the medium and long term. In these units we look in more depth at life insurance, mortgages, long term savings schemes and how people manage their money at different stages in their lives.

The course has uses assessment via examination. Each unit consists of two papers, the first being a multiple choice and the second, a paper based examination containing longer style answers. Exams are taken throughout the year in January and April.
